2 Introductions and Training

8/26-9/1

This week, I completed the required biosafety training. This is important because before we do anything in the lab, we should understand the risks that we might face.

Biosafety training is essential for protecting personal health, preventing environmental contamination, ensuring research integrity, and maintaining compliance with regulations. It equips individuals with the knowledge to handle biological materials safely, avoid accidents, and respond effectively to emergencies. By fostering a safety culture, biosafety training creates a secure and responsible laboratory environment.

For example, during the 2014 Ebola outbreak, laboratory personnel working with virus samples required specialized biosafety training to prevent accidental exposure and contamination. This training ensured safe handling of the virus, protecting workers and preventing its spread outside the lab, demonstrating the real-world importance of biosafety protocols.
