Results:
In this lab, we learned how to use reference management software.
For the procedure, Iused Zotero to store peer-reviewed articles.
Activity 2) Interpreting Scientific Literature
Interpretation of Scientific Literature and Reference Management Software:
One of the most important skills in research is knowing how to critically examine and interpret scientific literature. It’s important for professional researchers to be comfortable reading and interpreting the methodologies used in scientific literature in their field. There are many fundamental activities that will become second nature in a short amount of time as you advance in your academics, but will need to be learned properly through practice.
- Find a paper that interests you and look how its sources and references are organized.
- Cite your selected article using your reference management software of choice and take a screenshot for your ELN.
- Critically examine and read your selected paper’s abstract, methodology, conclusions, and discussions.
- Write a summary about the authors findings for your ELN.
Paper That I Summarized:
Wells, M., & Yang, F. (2021, October 20). Ballroom dance as a form of rehabilitation: A systematic review. MDPI. https://www.mdpi.com/2673-7078/1/3/26
Summary:
Ballroom dance is emerging as a rehabilitative method for individuals with chronic neurological or medical conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, dementia, cancer, and diabetes. A systematic review of 12 studies found that ballroom dancing improves gait, balance, and quality of life in these populations while being safe and having a low dropout rate (7.7%). The dances used included smooth and rhythm styles.
The findings suggest ballroom dance is a feasible and effective intervention for enhancing physical and mental functions in adults with chronic conditions. However, further large-scale, randomized controlled trials are needed to better understand its mechanisms, effectiveness, and safety.
