3 Microbial Ecology & Microbiomes 8/26/24-9/1/24

For this lab, we learned about the microbes that live around us. We made our own Winogradsky Columns and Hay Infusions. We also assesed our gut health.

Results of the BIOHM test: Gut balance | 3-4 out of 10; Your Gut Is Likely Imbalanced & Likely Lacking Microbiome Biodiversity.

The gut microbiome, or the bacteria in your gut, plays a crucial role in health by aiding digestion, synthesizing vitamins like B and K, supporting the immune system, and influencing mental health. A balanced microbiome can reduce the risk of conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

To improve gut health, focus on diet by eating fiber-rich foods, probiotic-rich items like yogurt and sauerkraut, and prebiotic foods such as bananas and onions. A Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, also supports a healthy microbiome.
