Introduction
The “Read & Learn Hungarian: Interactive Beginner’s Textbook” has been developed at the University of Florida Center for European Studies in 2023. This resource is an online, interactive theme-based textbook for true beginners in the Hungarian language for promoting communicative, linguistic, and cultural competence. It has a mixture of pedagogical approaches to accommodate various learning, and teaching, philosophies, and styles with the goal of achieving the novice high ACTFL proficiency level within the first semester of the Hungarian language study.
The book consists of eight chapters, each divided into two parts. The first part focuses on a text with an interpretive/monologue style, while the second part centers around a text written in an interpersonal/dialogue format.
The book caters to different learning and teaching styles, allowing learners to progress through the reading/listening and grammar sections in order to develop linguistic competence. Vocabulary in reading/listening includes the English meaning enabling learners can infer other meanings and gain contextual understanding. The reading/listening and grammar activities are developed using H5P, providing learners with immediate constructive feedback.
