Adding New Modules or Case Studies
We originally imagined IMOS as an evolving course project that would keep growing over time. Since the foundation of IMOS is collaboration between (1) materials science and engineering and (2) the humanities and social sciences, different teams of instructors may form at different universities. The materials and case studies at the University of Florida may not be the same at other schools, because of different expertise from different instructors. And we encourage you to customize this course to fit your interests and those of your students.
If you are teaching a different material, or working with a humanities/social science guest lecturer with a different topic focus, please consider contributing your original module and/or case study to the IMOS curriculum. Your contributions could take different shapes, including:
- Textbook chapters of materials case studies written by the humanities or social science expert.
- Addenda to existing textbook chapters
- New assignments
- Full modules on a new material.
Look at the next chapter in this instructor manual for a chapter template and style guide for adding your own content.
There are a variety of ways to use the original Canvas Course and textbook:
- You can use it as it is and/or contribute new items to it. (email Kevin Jones to add your chapter)
- You can make a cloned copy of the PressBook with full attribution to the original authors and make a custom edited version with new material for your class. If you do this, please share your new copy with us so that we can make it available through the original master copy as well.
