A cappella love
Sara Gonzalez, Marston Science Library
This recording was from a recent performance we gave to staff and patients at Haven Hospice. Audacity was started several decades ago by Mario Kinsey (bass), and I’ve been singing with them for about 3 years. Our repertoire is fairly eclectic with a mixture of spirituals, doo wop, folk, and barbershop. One of our singers is the chief of pediatric oncology so we perform at a lot of hospital events and fundraisers, and all of our proceeds go to support Shands Pediatrics. I think what I most enjoy about Audacity is the emphasis on purposeful singing; we perform not just to sing for a crowd but to provide comfort at memorial services, to entertain at nursing homes and shelters, and to raise money for cancer research.
